- Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in La Mercy and have pretty much lived in the same place all my life.
I was fortunate enough to be able to study medicine at UKZN, before undergoing my internship at RK Khan Hospital. It was extremely busy, and I was often thrown into the deep end, but it taught me so much!
I then did a year of community service within a community health centre in Ndwedwe which I absolutely loved. It was a small community where everyone knew each other, and I was really able to give that extra special personal touch.
Later I got into private practice, initially working in the emergency departments in multiple hospitals before I decided to open my own GP rooms because it allowed me some flexibility – something that is very important to me as a single mum.
- What inspired you to become a doctor?
I didn’t always know I wanted to be a doctor. I just knew I wanted to do something that would enable me to connect with people and make their lives easier in any small way. My mum is a GP and growing up I spent a lot of time in her surgery. I saw the way she interacted with her patients and knew them so well. Tt was never just a medical consult; she made a difference in their lives in ways much bigger than just treating their medical problem. It inspired me to study medicine and become that kind of doctor.
- What have been some of your career highlights?
I have multiple certifications in a variety of fields, including trauma, skincare, medical aesthetics and IV drip therapy. Thanks to the aesthetics side of my practice, I could say a highlight has been that I have met a few local celebrities, but of course I can’t share much more info than that!
- What attracted you to working at Rewardsco?
I am passionate about the idea of an occupational health clinic because I believe mental wellbeing is just as important as physical wellbeing. I am very excited to be here and to help staff bridge that gap. In my mind, a healthy work environment makes for a happy work environment!
- What message would you like to share with our staff?
I know there a lot of changes from how things were run in the clinic before, but rest assured, all of these changes have been carefully considered and made to create the best possible care for you!
